Master of Arts in Global Leadership (MAGL) students recently came together to help one of our partners in Simiatug, Ecuador. The trip is part of the students second residency for the MAGL program where they have the opportunity to explore cultural leadership focusing on military, community, indigenous and local governance partnerships and contexts.

A highlight of the trip was visiting Simiatug Village, high in the Central Andes. Students spent time in the home of an Indigenous family and learned about the social enterprise products of the women’s cooperative. The artisan community was in need of a leather sewing machine to assist with their local enterprise of handmade shoes. Global leadership students contributed the full amount for the purchase and the sewing machine has already been put to work. The community thanked them for their "meaningful action."

Students in the 2017 cohort will be able to see the sewing machine in action when we visit the community of Simiatug on our third journey to Ecuador with the MAGL program in June, 2018.
